Boundary Lines · Narrow & Low-Impact

Survey Line Clearing in Charlotte, NC

A surveyor can't measure what they can't see through. When a property line runs through briars, privet, and young pine, the survey either takes much longer or doesn't get done. And when you're selling, fencing, or settling a question with a neighbor, you need to be able to walk that line.

We clear survey lines across Charlotte with a narrow, careful pass, opening a walkable sight line along the boundary without stripping the woods on either side.

  • Narrow cut along the line
  • Clear sight lines for the survey crew
  • Neighbor's side left alone

How It Works

What Our Survey Line Clearing Process Is

Boundary work has to be precise and restrained. These four steps keep the cut on the line and off everything else.

  1. 01

    Review the Plat

We look at your plat or deed and any existing pins, flags, or old fence lines to understand where the line is expected to run.

  2. 02

    Agree on Width

We set a narrow width that gives the surveyor a sight line and a walking path, and nothing more.

  3. 03

    Cut the Line

The mulcher works along the line in a single narrow strip, staying on your side where the exact line is uncertain.

  4. 04

    Ready for the Crew

We let you or your surveyor know the line is open so they can set or confirm the corners.

Clearing Boundary Lines the Careful Way

Why Surveyors Need a Clear Line

Surveyors measure from one point to the next with instruments that need a line of sight. In dense Piedmont woods, a crew can spend hours hacking through privet and greenbrier just to see from one corner to the next. Clearing the line ahead of time saves that time, and on a long or heavily wooded line it can make the survey simpler to schedule. Ask your surveyor whether they want the line cleared before or after they set flags; some prefer to flag first so the cut follows their line exactly.

Before a Sale

Buyers want to see what they're getting. When a wooded tract or a large lot goes on the market around Charlotte, an open boundary line lets buyers, agents, and appraisers walk the property and understand its shape. It also gives the surveyor an easy job if the buyer's lender orders a new survey. A clear line suggests a well-cared-for property, which is far better than a buyer turning back at the first briar patch.

Before a Fence Goes In

Fence installers need a clear path to set posts and run wire or panels, and you want the fence on the right side of the line. Clearing the line before installation lets your surveyor confirm the corners and gives the fence crew room to work. Once the fence is up, a cleared strip on your side also makes it easier to maintain.

When There's a Question With a Neighbor

Boundary disagreements are stressful, and clearing a line isn't the same as settling one. The legal boundary is set by your deed and a licensed surveyor, not by where a machine cuts. When the exact line is in question, we stay on the side you clearly own and keep the cut narrow until the surveyor has set the corners. That way the clearing helps the survey along without making the dispute worse. If there's a real disagreement, a surveyor and possibly a real estate attorney should be involved before any clearing happens.

Narrow by Design

Survey line clearing is the lightest-touch work we do. The goal is a walkable strip with a clear sight line, not a wide swath. We keep the mulcher narrow, steer around larger trees along the line instead of taking them down, and avoid disturbing the ground beyond the strip. Because the cut is narrow and leaves roots in place, it usually disturbs very little soil. Lines that cross creeks may run into Mecklenburg County stream buffer rules, so confirm with the county before we clear near the water.

Why Us

Why Owners and Surveyors Choose Us for Line Clearing

Restraint Is the Skill

We keep the cut narrow and on your side, because a line clearing is no place for extra width.

Timed to Your Survey

We work backward from your survey or closing date so the line is open when it's needed.

Coordinated With Your Surveyor

We'll follow your surveyor's flags or preferences on timing and width, so the cut supports their work.

Boundary lines can carry real tension, and a careless cut can make things worse. We treat line clearing as precise, low-impact work: narrow, on your side, and timed around your surveyor, so the line is ready and the woods around it are left alone.

Questions

Charlotte Survey Line Clearing FAQs

How wide is a survey line clearing?

Narrow. Usually just enough to walk the line and give the surveyor a clear sight line. We'll agree on the width with you, and with your surveyor if they have a preference.

Should I clear the line before or after the surveyor comes?

It depends on the surveyor. Some want the line cleared first so they can work quickly, and others prefer to flag the line first so the clearing follows it exactly. Ask your surveyor what they'd like.

Does clearing the line establish my property line?

No. Your legal boundary is set by your deed and a licensed surveyor. Clearing just opens the ground so the line can be measured, walked, and seen.

What if my neighbor and I disagree about the line?

Get a licensed surveyor involved, and possibly a real estate attorney, before clearing. Until the corners are set, we stay clearly on your side and keep the cut narrow.

Will you cut big trees on the line?

We avoid it. We work around larger trees along a boundary rather than removing them, since they may be shared or on the neighbor's side.

Is line clearing worth doing before I sell?

Often, yes, especially for wooded tracts. An open line lets buyers, agents, and appraisers walk the property and makes a new survey easier.

Can you clear the line for a new fence?

Yes. Clearing ahead of a fence install gives the surveyor and the fence crew room to work, and leaves a strip you can maintain afterward.

How long does it take to clear a property line?

It depends on the length and how thick the growth is. Many residential lines take a few hours to a day. Long lines through dense woods take longer.
